Most Americans watched the death of George Lloyd with horror. There was no blink of an eye decision made by an officer. Instead, we all watched in horror as Mr. Floyd’s life ended before our eyes in 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
My name is Susan Metoxen. My husband is a retired police officer with the Minneapolis Park Police. He worked 15 years on the street, including 9 years as a motorcycle officer (a “motor cop”), several years as a field training officer (FTO), and 2 winters as a recruiter for new, incoming park agents.
Having first-hand knowledge of the police, I know that they need radical transformation. Re-education or minor policy changes will not cut it. There needs to be a complete change of heart. In addition to respect for the people they serve, police officers need to stop bullying each other. Many police officers—not all, but many—-labor each day or night in toxic work environments.
To that end, I have created this banner for your use. You may feel free to copy and use this banner in any way that you would like. Print it, share it, copy it…I would just like it to be used.
